Evensong & Benediction with Thanksgiving for 2025

Date

Description

Sung evening prayers, hymns, psalms from the Book of Common Prayer (traditional language) followed by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament*, short prayers, and Benediction with the Sacrament*.

As this Sunday is also the last day of the year, we give thanks to God for all his gifts and graces he so graciously, lovingly, and abundantly bestowed on us during this year. We also pray for a peaceful and safe 2026.

* Blessed Sacrament = even if in a hidden way but Jesus, as he promised at the Last Supper ("This is my body."), is truly present in the Host (or Wafer, or Bread) consecrated by the Priest during Mass. We keep this consecrated Host locked in a small cabinet on the Altar so that we can take it to the sick (Holy Communion) and also that we can pray in front of It (in Jesus' presence). When the Host is placed on the Altar as part of public worship, it is called Exposition. At the end of some prayers, the Priest blesses all those present, and the whole Parish, by making over them the sign of the cross with the Blessed Sacrament.
