S.P.O.T. (St. Paul's Outreach and Trading)

Run by a wonderful group of volunteers, S.P.O.T. is so much more than just a charity shop. All are welcome: bargain & treasure hunters as well as those who pop in just for a chat or a cuppa or those who are looking for volunteering opportunities.

Donations

Opening times

We are grateful for your kind and generous donations. Please do not leave anything in front of the shop entrance as donations left there got stolen most of the time. In St. Paul's church car park there are two boxes - to the right of the hall entrance - where donations can be left.

We regret but we are unable to accept duves, sleeping bags, pillows, and electrical goods. Thank you.

So where does your money go...?

We use the income form the charity shop to support St. Paul's parish church, its activities and outreach:
  • our Fish & Chips Club prices are subsidized for those in need;
  • the "Warm Welcome" initiative offers company, a warm space, and free refreshemnts to those who would struggle to heat their homes properly;
  • we offer meal and (depending on COVID) shelter for the homeless;
  • regular donations are made to the Westham Helping Fund which helps the sick and poor of the parish. Please read more about the Fund here.
S.P.O.T. pays 25% of the so-called "parish share" - a yearly sum St. Paul's must pay to the Diocese of Salisbury so that our church can stay open with a full time Vicar. Having a full time priest makes it possible for us to offer daily services, prayers, spiritual and financial support to anyone who comes to us in times of joy or mourning. It makes also possible to hold services in care homes and Westhaven Hospital. Even if you are not a church goer, you will certainly appreciate what a great source of joy and srength these services are for those residents and patients.

We hope that you will find a good bargain in our shop, that our volunteers' smile will make your day a bit brighter. We hope even more that knowing the difference your money and donation make to many who are lonely, sick, or deprived, will make you feel good about yourself - and quite rightly so! So on behalf of all those we are able to help because of you: thank you and God bless!
