St. Paul's Mission Church and School Room

On the 22nd of February in 1883 a Charity was created so that the growing population of Westham may have a school and a church. The Charity raised enough funds to achieve its goals, and by 1896 this deprived area of Weymouth had a place to learn and a place to worship.

Decades later, when the school rooms were not needed any more, the buildings and land were sold to satisfy a new need: a Hall that would serve both the Parish and the local Community.

Today it is still the original Charity that continues to fulfil the wish of its Founders - helping St. Paul's in its missionary work, reaching out to the local community and assisting those in need.

Trustees

It is the duty of Trustees to ensure that the original intent of the Charity is faithfully observed. The Deed of Trust says:

"The Trustees shall apply the income of the Charity for furthering the religious and other charitable works of the Church of England in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Paul, Weymouth."

Today the income of the Charity is used to help the Parish's social and missionary work, and also to continuously improve the Hall as an important focus point of many activities of the local community.

There are six Trustees: the Vicar of St. Paul's, one of the Churchwardens, three Trustees elected by the Charity itself, one Trustee elected by the PCC.

St Paul's

St Paul’s is a lively, forward-looking Anglican church in the Catholic tradition. We are affiliated to the Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda and our PCC has passed the resolution seeking episcopal oversight from the Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

We are part of the diocese of Salisbury and the Deanery of Weymouth and Portland. We maintain very close links with our Voluntary Aided School, Beechcroft St. Paul’s.
